When your dog is full growth, he will usually eat 2 meals a day except dogs with large and deep chest like St. Bernard or Great Dane because if they eat too much food, they will have excessive gas in stomach leading to serious pressure in internal organs.

If you give dog two meals a day, the most convenient time should be your breakfast and dinner time. However, it depends on your convenience. Do not give up for his hungry looking (because he is alluring you) and do not give food from table or you will have dog that is overweighed with stomach problem.

The amount of diet provided to full growth dog depends on his activity for example, for a dog that usually sleeps; he will need 30% less calorie than an active dog.

Adult dog food is usually like puppy’s as it is combined wet and dry. Can food is good especially for dogs. Follow manufacturer’s recommendations by giving dog’s food according to their weight but is decreased for 30 %. Moreover, use your common sense such as if your dog is getting fat, lower food given. If his weight is decreased, give more food. Do not forget that a left-little-hungry dog is usually healthier than overfull stomach dogs.

Adding of vegetable oil in food dog increases fat acid to skin and prevents dry skin. Add one teaspoon vegetable oil per 10 pounds of weight but not excessive to 2 tablespoons. If oil makes dog getting loose motion, stop adding oil and consult with veterinarian for alternative supplement.

It is not problem to give snack to dog between his meals, but remember that the snack has calorie. A dog that eat excessive snack can become fat. Raw carrot is a good snack with very low calorie. In fact dogs do not want bone, as commonly heard but they bite bone because they want mineral in bone. Dog food that is available in market is prepared with nutritional balance with complete mineral. Therefore bone is likely to cause negative result when the dogs have to be suffered from constipation, blocking intestine and broken teeth. We normally believe that bone can clean their teeth and strengthen their teeth which are wrong. If you want him to chew something, give him rubber toy, unbleached rubber toy or artificial bone.
